By far one of the best well made mystery series on TV. I just realized they have hundreds of episodes and with the rare exception every episode is interesting, grabs your attention throughout, is well written and all the characters have unique developed personalities. Unlike a majority of shows which are redundant, boring and their characters are as shallow as a puddle of water in the desert.
The murder/mystery is compelling. It usually takes some thought in figuring out "who dunnit". Sometimes the basic plot line does get predictable. How many people can be murdered within a limited area? Usually the first murder results in the domino effect and the quaint English country folk and their police have a handful of murders. They only pretend to be so polite, plenty of sex, wife swapping and scandal is hidden behind that proper accent and well bred facade.
They are done (the murders) creatively and only exhibit the required violence. There are none of the blazing gun battles which belong on mediocre video games but appear on TV "cop shows"too many times.
I like this show so much that lately I have been watching them back to back in a watching marathon. I am so glad that there are so many more to go, at an hour and a half it is way too much TV watching I am doing. Unless you can afford to spend the hours, (this pandemic is a good excuse,) don't get addicted! Seriously though If there is a show to hook you this is certainly the show of choice. I just upgraded my TV subscription just to get the show. I have never done that for a show of any sort.
I was wondering does the original names of Barnaby and Jones have some sort of "Easter egg" regarding the American detective Barnaby Jones played by Buddy Epson? Just a fluke?
