I was looking forward to reading Tom Lake, but decided to listen to it instead when I noticed Meryl Streep was her reader. It does not disappoint, not one bit. As in Dutch House, I’m struck by how effortlessly Patchett toggles between time periods & character growth in the telling of her stories. In the case of Tom Lake, especially as Streep imbues it with life, I can see & hear each character & picture every location in her books. Tom Lake is a beautiful story & delightful listen. And both Ann Patchett & Meryl Streep are American treasures.
