I found it dull. Pretty to look at, and an interesting story but it lacked depth and substance, and a clear narative arc. What could have been an exciting conclusion to the issue of intellectual property and equality of women and men was handled in a wtitten postlude. Colette's journey through sexual self-discovery is awkward and unconvincing, characters felt superficial and cliche. Some of this might have been due to it being a British production with a British cast rather than a French production which may have resulted in greater character depth and a better understanding of French culture of the time. It felt heavy-handed and uninspired. Interesting, enjoyable enough, but not Oscar-worthy in my mind.
