My wife and I have recently watched Time Team from the first series and are now nearing the end of series 19. It has been brilliant, watching the team develop from nervous beginnings worrying about obtaining permissions to dig, to one capable of digging veritable quarries over a weekend, with great humour, teamwork and, to this layman, great professionalism. And, along the way, I have learnt and relearnt an awful lot about history. Oh, and the other day, when I saw a metre deep ditch being dug on Northampton Road in Towcester, I went and took a look at the clear stratigraphy, and am convinced that the bottom of the four or five layers is the Roman surface from the last first century AD. I'd happily post a photo if I could to share what I saw.
