So, I have not read the book, but for those interested, based on reading reviews, the narrative and hearing Townsend himself talk about it a bit, it is clear that the returning former rock star character is a compilation of himself and Syd Barrett, the founding songwriter of Pink Floyd who destroyed his mind with LSD. The writing is considering, but for fate, there goes me, and fantasizing about a world in which Barrett sort of returned from his madness — as many people have who understand the depth of the true tragedy of this genius who became a martyr of the insane moment. Thought it might help those reading or considering to see it through this prism.
