I have been a fan of Les Miserables by Victor Hugo since 3rd or 6th grade... can't remember for sure, I had the same teacher in both grades and she read the book to us over the school year. I am Italian and have a very juicy limbic system... I was smitten by the characters, in love with them, and took everything to heart concerning them... The emotions were strong and I was deeply affected. I am now 75 years old. Over the Years, Les Miserables kept returning to my life, I saw the Musical 6-7 times... a few times in front row seats... I searched for all the old films of Les Miserables and watched every one I could locate... there are many. they all have their strong points.. But none including this latest one could ever capture the depth of the writing and story of this Great Book.. This latest one (6 hours) still could not do it..... Although it was truly a great try... The Best so Far... Conclusion, it can not be done even in six hours..... it was moving through time way to fast...
I am now searching for an unabridged audio recording, that I can close my eyes and hear it read to me... like when I first experienced it..
I am imagining an audiobook with each character dramatized by a different reader....
Always, I am indebted to Victor Hugo for his insight into Human Character.
