The first third of this book is riveting. A transfixing journey of a new age mendicant starving himself into thought and self-searching. The second third is a twist toward a mad old man and his stories in the desert. Then we get an odd denouement which does not leave this reader satisfied. Chatgpt suggested Id like this after the New York Trilogy, which I thought was stunning. Chatgpt was wrong.

A hot mess of a plot mixed in with some confused direction on whose story this is meant to be. Starts off well enough, pretty visuals and intrigue. Then it drags and leaves lots of unanswered questions with some messy misdirection. The film seems like a contemporary take on Six Degrees of Separation (1993). Best avoided.

Stunning to look at. The score is disconcerting. Wonderful performances from everyone. However well Cumberbatch brings menace to his role he seems to be all over the place with accent, delivery and fitting in with the tempo and ensemble of his subtler partners. At times the pacing and reveal of plot points feels like it’s trying too hard to be artistic. Made me want to read the book but not watch this again.

Marvel decided to go for broke and made a DC film.
Flabby, terrible script, wobbly accents (because lets change genders and ethnicities but lets insist on accents) massive plot holes, unbelievable character turns, long and boring, possibly the worst CGI and Marvel easter egg star appearance ever, a sycophantic Indian stereotype, and so many bizarre lovey dovey montages, Eternals might be confused for a daytime tv soap opera or the worst origin story since Fantastic Four. Red Notice was better and my god Red Notice is terrible.
Here’s a mega 2 hour 40 minute turkey before Thanksgiving. Avoid like your life depends on it.
