The best part about Diplomat is that it is inspired by true story of Uzma Ahmed. In the end credits they have shown Sushma Swaraj, Uzma JP, the diplomatโs real interview which adds lot of authenticity to the movie.
Movie is made in thriller genre, and it does keeps you at the edge many times. The helpless Indian girl is trapped in Pakistan and how Deputy High Commisioner helps her go back to her country is the core of the story.
Problem is it is a one line story, they tried their best to make it thriller but with not much twists and turns the plot appears linear only.
It seem they were trying to create tense moments, gripping moments but just fall a little short of it.
Cant pinpoint exactly but something was definitely missing
I think there could have been more depth to the plot
Though it was very well compensated by John Abrahamโs class acting. He was fab
No action scenes but he shined
Very restrained still out there. Loved him
The girl playing Uzma is nice but could have been better. I think she couldnโt bring out the pain in her eyes.
Its a nice movie, nothing ostentatious, no distractions in form of songs or side story.
Some dialogues were worth a whistle
Like the one - Peshe se diplomat hun fitrat se nahin
Some good scenes, a little action
And also such stories need to be seen so that girls who are so vulnerable whatever the religion dont get fooled so easily by the viultures sittimg out there
Can be seen without high expectations of great reviews it is receiving.
And yes it helps that it is based on true story, you get invested a little more
3 stars
for the acting
for the attempt and
for some thrill
