IMO. (Spoilers) The movie doesn’t know what it wants to be or which direction to go. Too many story lines going on and none of them paid off. It’s not a bad movie but there’s nothing about it that I can say stands out to be a good movie. It’s very 50/50. As a big fan of the original I was happy to be getting a sequel but disappointed with the outcome. They got the Charles death, story line, beetlejuices wife storyline, the Lidia story line with her daughter and with her producer/sort of partner/a character we didn’t really need (with our him it doesn’t change the main story much). Then the storyline with lidias daughter and the boy she starts talking to and none of it really ties together in a way that makes the ending worth it. It’s got the same effect of ghost busters frozen empire, build up this villain, tell a backstory make them seem threatening and then basically rush the ending and kill then within 5 mins. Personally a better story would be about lidia and her daughter moving back to the house as her father/grandfather passed away and lidias daughter finds that boy Like she does in the movie and then he wants her to go to the afterlife so he can be alive again and make the twist that he’s dead and he killed his parents like he did to have tension to the movie. Then Lidia finds out about that boy and his family and needs beetlejuice to help her get into the afterlife to get her daughter back and then in that beetlejuices wants her to agree to marry him. So take that story line from the movie and run with that and make that the main story and scrap the whole thing with beetlejuices wife and all that cause really it was pointless. Just feel they thought of tons of different story to do for the movie and said stuff it let’s do all of them and somehow tie it together. That’s my personal opinion. Still don’t hate the movie but also not the sequel it should have been.
