Sam Bibo

This film had a great start but everything got lost in the sauce. Terrific acting, good VFX, and some of the scares were great! But the story didn’t make sense. It was thought provoking in that it made me think “who the hell signed off in this thing.” They had it in the beginning, an immigrant couple moves to a new land, and tries to adjust in their own ways. One tries their best to blend in and become part of the culture, while the other rejects the new culture and longs for home. If they wanted the haunted angle, go the shining route and make a malicious spirit in the house further drive them apart as they begin to plot to kill one another. But the addition of the witch and the daughter that wasn’t a daughter, (rather a prisoner?) distracted from any sensible forward motion in the plot.
