Definitely not the worst programme I have seen. I loved the setting of an oil rig out in the middle of the sea. A creepy place with many nooks and crannies for characters to end up frightened and alone in. Plus I’ve always found the sea terrifying. A vast never-ending body of water with deep unknown depths. Perfect setting for horror! I wasn’t so sure of the characters. Some were confusing and outright over the top. For example, the angry man, Hutton, was he bitter because Magnus was the boss instead of him? Did he hate being on the rig or was it ‘his life’ as he stated to Coake? And Coake? So obvious the villainous company man that he just needed a cape and evil laugh to complete the persona. Baz was another character who initially I thought was great, a typical lad concerned about going on the lash at a stag do in Prague. Once he became infected, he started spouting some cringe worthy cliches. Plus how come Garrow died, whilst Baz and Fuller survived? After all, they were all breathing the same gases. Garrow was definitely a spare character that added no depth or value to the overall story.
However, it was still an entertaining evening of binge watching tv. I’m not sure if I would watch a second series though. Although called The Rig, the rig has been destroyed and it was the perfect haunting setting that drew me in in the first place.
