I could not stand this book. There were multiple times when I wanted to just put it down. I understand, this was written from a teenage boys point of view but Jesus Christ it was awful. Not only does the main character (Greg) have no empathy or even a single thought about anything besides himself, he is a very unlikeable character. The only time he recognized the girl DYING OF CANCER as a person and not a burden or chore is when he is hours away from dying and even then finds ways to insult her. The book also just blatantly racist. Earl, Greg’s best friend, was written in such a gross way i almost couldn’t believe it. His dialogue was written to sound like he was saying it and made no sense at any point. No human speaks like that unless they are a caricature written by a white person, which what it was. Overall I cannot suggest this book to anyone. There is no movement of the awful plot and honestly the way in which it was written is confusing and mind numbing. I would give it a negative amount of stars if I could.
