I firmly believe this is one of the best movies of all time, sure it's a bit far-fetched in the violence aspect and such, but I still think it is an accurate representation of what the band experience is like. From my time in a band for me, it isn't super accurate, but it isn't completely off, the band teacher would still be a bit rough and shout and yell, in a sort of tough love sort of way, and was very serious about how students would play, act, perform, etc. I believe that this movie overall is a reasonably fair representation, (although extreme), of what being in a band and having an extremely committed and determined instructor is like. Most of the one-star reviews, id like to believe, have never been in a band, and have experienced what it's like to have a strict teacher who does want to better the student's ability, and for the people that believe this is a misogynistic work of garbage, its obviously not a chick flick or rom-com, and it's not about a romance(mostly) it's just about one guy and his experience in a band with a hardened and ruthless teacher, that's pretty much it, no real side plot needed, as the band is the main focus, just like Andrew's main focus is the band in the movie.
