My 11 year old has read books by this author so when she needed a quick book for a book report, she thought nothing of getting this one. Since she attends a private Christian school, she felt very uncomfortable with the subjects in this book. Additionally, as a parent who monitors what my child reads I was shocked to learn what was in the book. Discussing LGBTQ+ matters with my 11 year old was not something I wanted to do at that time and shouldn’t be forced on a child. The book description needs to include that information so parents and students can be informed.
