I was a little hesitant to watch this movie because the reviews weren’t in the 90th percentages, but it took me by surprise. I really loved this movie. Some people say they didn’t find the right closure with the movies ending, but I disagree. To me, this movie was about learning, finding out what we are and finding out the secrets of the universe. In truth, we come from the stars and we are made of the same elements of stars (93% of the mass in our body is made of stardust). I’m sorry for being a nerd, but I just love learning about the universe and how life came to be lol. But back to the movie, in the end Ruka did learn about just that. She saw herself and asked “Am I the universe?” and saw stars clashing into more stars. She also saw Umi become part of the universe as a symbol of where we eventually go when we die (totally not meant in a spiritual way, but as gross as it may sound, decomposition eventually happens and we become part of the world). That’s how I saw it at least.
