Spectral was on my watch list for a long time before I got around to watching it last night. I thought it was going to yet another one of their rushed scifi flops with shotty effects but I am actually very impressed. Not only did it include the tech/magic combination I love so much, the acting was good, the story had a direct flow, and the twist at the end was very emotional.

While the concept and fight scenes are really good, this movie was ruined by bad acting, bad songs, and major plot holes caused by entire origin scenes being cut. Despite the terrible songs, this movie's OST is pretty awesome, especially the track during the final fight scene. This is a movie that really could use a reboot.

The Mist is a perfect blend of science fiction and the supernatural, much like most of Stephen King's other work involving epic mistakes caused by top secret government projects (Firestarter, Golden Years, etc.). And it isn't often that a film is adapted from a book and winds up with an ending that the author prefers to their own. While the ending did grip my heart tightly and pull it out of my throat, it made the movie great. Happy endings are far too cliche. -Amelia Wysocki
