So if you're looking for a movie about Napoleon's military exploits then you're looking for the wrong movie. This is about Josephine and Napoleon. The story is so chopped up and if you don't already know his history then it'll be very confusing what's going on... This is just my opinion as well but Joaquin Phoenix just didn't live up to the Napoleon I had in my head, and I'm sure a lot of fans of history will say the same. Phoenix seemed disinterested in the role and some of the scenes he made Napoleon look like an idiot. I understand why the French critics were not happy with the movie... Maybe others will find it entertaining but for history fans I think this movie falls dreadfully short.
