Wonderful reminder of the true grit of the Norwegian Resistance and their determination to follow orders which would ultimately save the entire world from Nazi nuclear war plans. The cast is an excellent line up of some of the best the sixties movie world had to offer, with names that will live in the hearts of all of us who remember when acting was a 'real art'! See the film, admire the generation who risked their young lives that you reading this today, might enjoy the lifestyle of the 21st Century...could people ever be this brave, loyal to friends, and so courageous again..I doubt it.

This is not about Paul Gaughin per se but about a man with a similar 'artistic genius' who despises money,or so appears, and revers art for the sake of art , as a means of self-justification of his erratic life and relationships. It's a brilliantly written book, with just enough detail to allow you to use your imagination to 'fill in the gaps' which is what good writing should be about of course. The description of Tahitian life was so vivid and a trip down memory lane for me as i also remember an 'unspoilt island' years ago before it had an 'air strip'!. The book is so easy to pick up and re -read taking in each 'scene' with the peculiarly unpleasant Strickland whose desire to be free of all life's burdens takes him to Tahiti where he lives like the Bohemian he has always been keen to associate with.
