First of all, this is not a review of the lady herself. She is a icon, however the film follows the trappings of recent music biopics, too much focus playing 'covers' of the music, but not enough about Aretha's life, her passions, her journey and history behind the songs.
This film is 70% music video; I can listen to her real music.
The most interesting part of the film is the dynamics between her father, the men in her life and her family. Sadly the writer(s) couldn't put together a half-decent story about this legendary woman.
The acting was ok, the stand out is, and always, Forest Whitaker who plays Aretha's father.
Not worth a second viewing.
