I didn't have high expectations for this movie, but it was made by Illumination which I love, and M. Shigeru Miyamoto did take part in making the movie, so I was really hopping that the movie won't go Woke.
I thought maybe they'll put Mario gay or Princess Peach trans or other annoying stuff. But they didn't, and they stayed on the main subject of what Mario games truly are about, and that is one of the reason I love this movie. Another reason would be that we have an idea of where Mario and Luigi came from, which I thought was cool.
Do not listen to people who say Princess Peach is too much of a feminist or badass, because people keep forgetting that Peach saved Mario and beat Bowser in her video game, which I also love. They made her a strong character who cares about her people and want to do things right, just like in all the Mario video games.
Also, haters say that Luigi is too much of a scary cat and "damsel in distress", which isn't true. Real Mario fans know that Luigi has always been more scared of things in every Mario video game, especially Luigi's trilogy of "Luigi's Mansion" where we clearly see that he is always scared most of the time (I feel like the poor guy will die of a heart attack one day) but still wants to save Mario and his friends, just like how he beats Bowser with the help of Mario in this movie.
To conclude, it is an amazing movie. Although it is a short one, I know that there will be a part 2 and I can't wait.
