Horribly, horribly dated, and primitive. It feels like the writers did some surface-level research into physics and potential space travel, but almost NO research into what ETs might be or want.
Also, the characters are rather mundane, dramatic, early-2000s TV kind of characters. They're faced with rather gargantuan, existential life changes and they're talking as if they can't see past what their boss thinks about their Freudian slip during a meeting.
I won't comment on the acting, since I didn't get far enough and couldn't get into it enough to really pay attention.
