This is a really good story and Kate Quinn carried out a lot of excellent research on Bletchley Park. But, oh dear, the writing is appalling. What a pity the publishers didn't assign a British Editor. Kate Quinn has clearly no idea of England or the English. She seems to have acquired a long list of English colloquialisms, slang and expressions but has either used them in the wrong place, inappropriately or simply hasn't got a clue what they mean. For example, she has learnt the word 'loo' but seems to think it applies to a whole bathroom, i.e. a room that contains a bath. It doesn't. And, by the way, ice hockey is not, and has never been, played in the British Isles. There at least one mistake on every page which became something of an irritation. What a shame. A very good book ruined slovenly, lazy writing and editing.
