Many of you will relate to this: I am at an age where I am emotionally attached to these toys and grew up with their adventures and crazy escapades. Every movie, short story, and app, I was there and needed to see/have it. Through Woody and Buzz, Woody being captured by the collector and meeting Jessie, to the whole gang’s adventures with Bonnie at the preschool and meeting her, I was there and loved every single second of it. I loved it all, especially Buzz and Woody and Bo and Woody.
And now I know that Bo was Andy’s mother’s toy and every theory out there has been tested by me, believe me. And if they don’t make another movie, this is the end of an era and my childhood. You might know how I feel. There is a great deal of closure in this movie, and it is much more emotional than the rest, save maybe the first one.
It is so funny though, and the humor is still perfectly paced. Every character is still defined and true, and the new ones complement the old ones instead of replacing them. All of the old gang is featured, and you know what I mean. I would like the gang to come together and stay that way, but this is the ending that Woody and Bo deserve and it shows how they need to move on and that when you age and that life moves on, you can find a new purpose and move on as well. And we all will, regardless if Toy Story 5 comes out or not.
SPOILER ALERT:
This movie let me down as Andy asked Bonnie to especially promise to him that she would take care of Woody, and he was totally and utterly sidelined. This hurt me so bad, and THEY SPLIT UP WOODY AND BUZZ. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? Their friendship is what me and my best friends strove to have when we were small. And that move was unthinkable until now. I love Woody and Bo, I really do. But I love Woody and Buzz more.
And I sincerely hope that the people at Pixar realize that this is how many viewers who grew up with this series feel and that they will make a sequel that really brings the whole gang together again. In the words of Reel Reviews, “For some viewers in their late 20s or early 30s, Toy Story 4 might represent the first encounter with nostalgia. The movie feels like it’s more interested in recapturing things from the past than blazing a new path. In 2019, Disney is dispensing a lot of the last chapters. Avengers: Endgame and The Rise of Skywalker are the most obvious, but Toy Story 4 deserves a place alongside them. The animated series may have lasted one film too many but at least the latest installment doesn’t diminish the power of its predecessors. I’m going to miss Woody, Buzz, and the rest but, although parting is such sweet sorrow, I hope this is goodbye. It’s time to go and the ending offers a graceful, hopeful exit.”. To infinity and beyond.
