I would not recommend this book. It makes me sad that on the book jacket it says it is a New York Times notable book of the year. The author clearly has an issue with the Catholic church as she makes continuous jabs at the religion throughout the book. It is neither funny or kindhearted, but very pointed and mean spirited. Some how the main character is almost raped twice but she averts it with her crafty thinking. I realize some men can be pigs, but not all men behave like depraved animals. The only thing I liked about this book is when Elizabth Zott was with Calvin. They did have at least have some chemistry. Its a sad statement on society that this book can get such rave reviews.
