Creative writing. Good script and incredible acting by Konkona mainly. Prosenjit's role was secondary. One looked for a different ending but I understand the rush at the end where reconciliation occurred. In the real world, the end could have been different with the female lead deciding to stay aloof of the womanizing husband and go for a divorce. But it is stimulating and well acted. I am not Indian (great grandfather from India) but I am learning about India and its culture thru its films.

My wife and I were just relaxing and decided to check out the Netflix movie list. We flicked thru and saw some old movies and just steupsed - showed disgust. Then we saw Thambi as a new film so we checked it out. Normally we look at Bollywood films now and then, but we became engrossed with Thambi as the story unfolded. The characters are simple, the story-line uncomplicated and entertaining, while the actors delivered on their roles. There were some village scenes and lovely forested landscapes that caught us in wonderment. We lapped up Thambi. We do not speak any Indian language and the subtitles were really good, allowing us to understand the nuances intended by the film makers. Karthi was particularly good. We recommend this film and scored it top grades. Congratulations.

No doubt the movie is performing badly. Lead actor could not carry the role. Too stacatto in delivery and action, and many good lines were flubbed by uninterested delivery. Underweight Sanon was not outstanding and the presence of women on the military campaign was a downer. It rates low as a movie but the history is striking and memorable. I was bored. My low rating might match the decision of others.
