Like many reviewers here, Blink-182 is one of my favourite bands - remaining that way through their discography and evolution. Which is why I’m conflicted as to the main reason behind not wanting to play this one regularly.
There’s an absence of creativity throughout this album, many songs come across like a Sum 41 track but miss out on the catchy hook. It feels like an album done with a tight deadline or out of necessity which just isn’t the case here. It feels tight, and not from timekeeping; restricted melodies that Tom seems to be able to find in abundance for Angels and Airwaves, no Mark bass lead like we had from Take off your P&J. And Travis, who drives the songs, but again with a stifled feel of someone who has been asked to come up with a quick solution (compare anthem part 2 drumming with part 3). With this album I expected a neighbourhood 2, perhaps gritty like Kaleidoscope or an explosive rhythmical theme from that of Hallucinations - Love Part 1.
There are some songs I’ve played more than others for sure, but not enough to sway the consensus, I can fully understand why edging was pushed upfront for the promotion. 4/10 for me.
