Bittersweet vignettes of Japanese life, a calm tiny late night to morn restaurant, the gently rotating cast of regulars and a tough faced yet compassionate and wise proprietor. The food he makes is simple yet delicious and I now eat butter rice. A joy to watch.

Sharp funny vicious and a good satire.. maybe a bit slow but just scabrous enough to make me wince in a good way.

Stylish, dry, clever and a witty take on the traditional trope of the pent up, seeming everyman, returning to his true animal .. even nitzchean self. Odenkirk is inspired casting as his average middle aged dad schtick is waiting to be ripped away. A simple burglary gone wrong is the trigger to vengeance, surreal brutality and dry monologues that are the inner voice of normal working assassin made real. Brilliant throughout.

I love it. Gentle wit, dry irony and a wry take on the zombie genre. The line between normal and weird of a small town community makes this film the gentlest zombie film ever made. Cinematography cool and restrained and often beautiful, script funny and unforced and the zombies classic nicely turned out dead folks. Murray, Driver, Sevigny et al make it looks easy. Ignore the nay sayers and just let it roll…
