It's not bad unless you're arachnophobic. The film truly managed to make me explicitly feel emotions... toward the space-spider; fear, revulsion, distrust, skepticism, hesitancy, and finally empathy.
Depressed Cosmonaut Adam Sandler was a hard sell; his character spends so little effort on performing his role as a crew of one, on a critical mission past "the edge of Jupiter", instead focusing on his loneliness, regret, and isolation. I kept asking myself if it was even necessary to have this take place in space, all of the drama and tension of the story could've happened in any setting.
The supporting cast is as crucial to the movie as an engine is to a party bus. Without them, you're not going anywhere. But when they're working well, you never notice them; and, why should you, you're here for the creepy giant spider.
