I lived in the Henry Horner Projects in the late 1950 and to 1964. Wasn't bad then everyone knew each other and we had the Boys Club I lived in the 1848 projects, i remember at the age of 5 boys club was a little house and as i got older it grew, i remember going to Birney grammar school and from the projects to the school was a big vacant field full of dirt, i remember it was raining and I got stuck in the mud.back when i was there it was maybe some shady stuff going on. When I was about 6 that field that I got stuck in the mud they paved the whole area and put a baseball diamond, a full court basketball court and a couple tennis courts. When clean up week came all the projects was cleaning up the area's, it was nice back then. I know the parking lots was clean no debris and tires laying around. But when i got older i understand because i would ride over therein the late 70's and it looked terrible i cried everytime I went over there just to see, I loved that place as a young male with the boys club right there and I was involved very much in the boys club had a lot of people helping us youngsters and making sure we stayed out of trouble. Living in the projects back then for me was the best part of my life. Learned a lot at a early age being involved in the boy's club. There is so much more I could write.
