This movie is just a long, drawn out waste of time. They make it feel like there's some secret story or secret drama that will be exposed, but it never happens. I have enjoyed Maggie Gyllenhaal in some of her acting roles but PLEASE I hope she doesn't write or direct anything else. I lost 2 hrs of my life that I can never get back, I feel gypped and tricked also because the story they pretend they are telling doesn't even happen at all. It's a story of NOTHING. It's all just a series of flashbacks of a mundane life led by unlikable and boring people, and an overall story not even worth telling. And in the end absolutely nothing is revealing or resolved at all! After all that time thinking it would make sense and have a story in the end. That you'll be glad you kept watching because it'll all come together and you'll know why people supposedly like this movie so much. But you are left feeling like an idiot for wasting so much time waiting for the "real story" to be revealed. There IS NO REAL STORY. You've been Punkd into thinking this would be a good movie, that's all. I feel like somewhere people are laughing about this, it feels very like watching someone's home movies at times. And omg the camerawork is just wrong. It seriously does disturb me though that there are so many good reviews about a movie that was as interesting as a bowl of tepid oatmeal. Do these people actually exist?? People that think this movie is good? Are they plants/fakes? I have a hard time believing there would be more than one or two people who actually see something worthwhile in this terrible slow, boring movie with no discernible plot or worthwhile story. I never fall asleep during movies and I found myself nodding off again and again because it was just THAT dull. Please Maggie go back to acting. This was just wrong and so very painful.
