This is one of the best classic "Late 80s" / "Early 90s" shows of all time. In fact, I'd say it would define the era in multiple ways. The show holds up in quality even to this day. The plot, although a comedy, was amazing and kept you in the edge of your seat wanting a new episode. This show practically shaped my soul, and even better... It has a female / woman lead. One of the most interesting things about the show was that Burt Reynolds played the father, but was uncredited. There was, for a short time a re-release of this in Germany, but it changed a lot of things, including the intro. I still would have bought it in a heartbeat if I had the means to, but now it's unfortunately sold out. I was berated by SHOUT! Factory on their forums a very long time ago for suggesting they acquire the license to this show. They've been shooting it down for ages saying, "It's not worth it, people told us Small Wonder would sell, but that was a flop." I felt quite insulted that the company compared "Small Wonder" (which is a creepy show to begin with) to something as amazing as "Out of this World." To this day, no retro-type distributer wants to touch it, and I have no idea why. It's solid from beginning to end and I definitely am waving my money in the air like Fry in that meme. Heck, what's it cost to own the rights and distribute digitally? Maybe I've found a solid investment here. Watch out, better beat me to it! (No, seriously, someone acquire the rights for this. This show was wholesome and amazing.)

The movie itself seems to reboot Power Rangers in a more dedicated fashion to the original lore which gets lost over time due to the franchise itself being over complicated by both the fact that the original was stock footage based off a completely different Japanese series and the fact they made up lore for the show that it never fully embraces. The movie however, shows a unique and amazing backstory with similar plot elements of the 90s show and actually does an AMAZING job telling the story. Zordon trapped between dimensions is explained. Rita is explained. Their backstories, explained. Rita's motivation is more than "I just want to take over Earth" it actually has a reason and a purpose for being. How the Power Rangers abilities work are also explained... Which, they truly never are in the original. (I mean, they kind of are... But really they're kind of not.) The thing is with this one, they purposely go out of their way to break the "Color coded" oddity the original power rangers had, which is definitely a good thing but if you're a fan of the original show you're gonna notice that all the characters have a different vibe to them. They definitely fit the role of what each character SHOULD be and IT WORKS but if you're a sucker for things being almost "exactly like" the original you might be disappointed on that part. However, it's refreshing and it sets up a new, original Power Rangers feel which I think could have worked well with a sequel or even a brand new original series reboot. (Face it, the original Power Rangers went on for WAY too long and was too kid oriented... when Power Rangers itself can be pretty cool and complicated if you're an adult who likes that sort of "comic book" or "superhero" feel.) The only major disappointment in this movie is that while they do an excellent job in story telling and setup... There's practically no real "power rangers action" until the last 30 minutes of the film, if even. Zordon, played by Bryan Cranston, is an EXCELLENT choice. The way Zordon's personality is portrayed makes it look like something fans of the original series joked about... In that this floating head that can't actually do anything in the physical plain of existence, is actually using the teenagers for his own goals. Zordon is the one who has something to gain by these kids becoming power rangers, and even though the world needs to be saved he comes across as very selfish at first. Which is amazing, it makes the character more real than just some jerk in a tube. Alpha is probably the character that makes the least amount of sense if you're looking for a direct comparison to the original... Even though the new Alpha is pretty badass on his own right and WAY more useful than the original Alpha 5. Again, it seems like Power Rangers as it should be with a lot of unexpected changes that you would THINK would make the movie a flop... But exactly the opposite. EVERY SINGLE CHANGE from the original actually makes this movie 100 times more fascinating than the 90s TV show and actually improves upon it a lot. If you were to go into this movie never even knowing about Power Rangers for the past 30 years, you wouldn't be confused and you'd honestly come out thinking that this was amazing. I feel this film is the best example of an "oldschool" reboot than most of the other films they've tried to reboot over the past decade. This one does it right.
