An absolutely incredible show, ofcourse it's not meant for people who are suicidal or could be triggered in any way but the warnings clearly explain that, they include crisis resources too.
The main reasons I think most people like this show is because it tackles real problems teenagers face in todays society head on, they don't hold back like any other shows might for fear of being "too controversial". Until 13 reasons why I had never seen a show that explored these taboo themes properly, I think this show opened up a conversation and made people talk about it.
I know people say it glorifies suicide but not to me, I think including the suicide scene in season 1 was very raw and deters people from suicide instead. The aftermath of Hannah's suicide also acts as a deterrent as it shows how suicide will only hurt the people you love.
I've read through many reviews and have seen how many people stopped watching or started disliking the show at season 3/4 because it's dramatic or unrealistic, I mean the show on google is literally "drama series".
Unlike many reviews that show dislike for season 4 I think it was great. I love how the end still looped back to Hannah and how a few old cast members returned. Some reviews say they hate this season as it teaches us teenagers to oppose authority and choose violence, I however loved this turn of events in the show, as a teenager myself it showed how I didn't have to listen to an adult if they were clearly in the wrong, and to me atleast this is not disrespectful in anyway. Just because you're an adult doesn't mean you're always right and the show portrayed that wonderfully.
Overall I loved everything about the show, its the only show I've watched that truely evoked emotion in me, I felt like I've grown with the characters, the character development for each person was beautiful. When the show first came out I ofcourse started watching, and at the time I was a bit of a devil and loved to mess around for the fun of it, I had also been sexually assaulted for years during my childhood but I never knew how to deal with the wrath of emotions I felt after, I think this show really helped me as a person to grow into who I am today and for that I am very thankful.
So thank you to Brian Yorkey, Selena Gomez, Mandy Teefey, Netflix and ofcourse the entire cast of the show :)
