Very sad. Absolutely heart breaking. Douglas Stuart, obviously has personal experience of being with someone suffering with addiction and has made sure that Shuggie forgives his mother for everything because he loves her. The reader finishes the book with an understanding of this cruel illness, ( disease ). 😢
