I managed to watch 3 episodes. As one reviewer has said apparently all the original inhabitants left….
A central theme is the lack of food and yet everyone looks so healthy with plump, clean faces and 21st century teeth!
Snakes, spiders, goannas, roos, wombats, fruit bats at night, the deafening sounds of birds ( as the early Europeans recorded), all these would have been an incredible contrast to the life they left behind. But they don’t get a look in either.
No smoke from Aboriginal fires. They used this to communicate….
There is so much missing and the overall tone so much like a weekend camping trip that the series comes across as a children’s story from the 1950’s.
A real shame with such a good cast too.
Another thing I noticed was the use of willow bark for easing the pain from the lash. It’s true that this source of aspirin was well known, but I hope the writers weren’t suggesting this was available in Sydney at this time since it’s not endemic to Australia. Or are they hinting that it was carried on board ship and then plentiful enough to give to convicts?
And finally, where is Bennelong?
