Totally agree: “This book made me feel like a complete idiot. I equate a Pullitzer Prize winning novel with Genius, Be it story telling, style, insightfullness or content. I'm an idiot because I didn't get the appeal of this book. Allow me to tell you what this book is not...Funny. Poignant.Enlightening.Engaging.Character driven. Interesting. Thought provoking. Less is a completely flat and unlikable character who remains as much a stranger to the reader on the last page as he is in opening paragraph. He seems to be on a lifelong search for true love yet doesn't exhibit any loving or lovable qualities. We never understand exactly why these numerous lovers of his are attracted to him in the first place. The secondary characters are basically non-existant. They seem to be there solely for Less to engage in a little dialogue with and somehow find their way into his bed. As soon as Less moves on to his next international stop...these characters have been forgotten. I can not even recall one of their names upon completion of this book. The author seems to have written this book for self-indulgence only. Trying to capture a narrow jet setting audience who would be impressed with his worldy knowledge of geography, customs and culture. I had hopes for this book. I was waiting for some great revelation about aging or navigating the gay community as your age made you irrelevant to it. I had hoped to put the book down with some insight into my own life or with a change in thought..That's what a Pullitzer Prize winning novel should do. Allow me to tell you what Less is. Cynical. Dull. Empty. Forgetable. The Pullitzer Prize should have gone to the Senior Menu at DENNY'S!!”
