I still don't understand why this show has kind of split the audience in half but as one that appreciated the animation for what it was, i felt a bit sour about this adaptation.
Don't get me wrong the visual was great and the bending was on point but i think there a several things that came as a shocker including the ability to fly that we saw Aang carry out in the series. Of course, every true fan of the show knows that the fact that flight wasn't common was the whole point of Zahir's terror in the Legend of Korra. It was a secret hidden by the monks because even they could not truly detach from all earthly bonds.
But at it's core i felt these weren't kids as the animation suggested, these are adults behind the words of kids. Aang lost his fun, and Sokka lost his sarcasm and his character arc. And Zuko looked like he could live without finding the avatar. These character flaws extended to the conversation made it just a bore to listen to.
This is not a bad series just a bad adaptation. If you have zero expectations, you might have the time of your life. But if you appreciated the animation then tough luck I don't think Netflix made this one for you and me.
