Having read Darren mc Garvey's "social distance between us" I proceed to buy "Poverty safari". I must say that these two books are incredible. Poverty safari highlights a lot of the issues stemming from poverty and has a fair few issues of which a group of students or a book group could debate. It has really opened my eyes (I moved to Glasgow in 2013 and am still here) to things I never would have thought of or been aware of. I think his two books should be part of a school curriculum to prepare young minds for the challenges they'll face in this world and why things are that way. It would be good for people from a poverty background to read this and also the middle and upper classes should have to read this to have an idea as to why people in poverty are behaving the way they do and why they think how they do. Poverty should not be a thing in the western world. This book explores many key issues in an engaging and sometimes humourous way. The author discusses his experience growing up in poverty and how that's shaped him.
Incredible book. Will be referencing it for my open university module in history re social classes.
Highly recommend for teens, young adults and of course, adults themselves.
So glad I found this author and finished his two books in a month.
