I wish the movie had a plot, then I could follow it. What is the main idea?

This movie was quite disappointing. The writers must think that viewers enjoy a plot that is too difficult to follow and understand.

This is the best sci-fi films of the latter part of the century.... a tremendous influence. Schwarzener fits the role perfectly. The great plot is only matched by the excellent roles by Hamilton and Beihn.

War Games Plot: A threat of incoming nuclear missiles come in to NORAD base. The human manned base of defense fails to invoke a retaliation. Military intellect decide to make the retaliation computer controlled Then a kid hacks into the NORAD computer system and fakes a play game of nuclear war The computer then shows this fake imitation of incoming missiles After the attack is found to be fake and the target is found to be OK , they learn that it is just a simulation game But the computer reacts with an auto launch retaliation and the crew cannot stop it A man (Falken) suggests to the computer that it should equate the nuclear war to a game of tic-tac-toe and that there can never be a winner After several iterations , the computer learns that there is no winner & stops
