I don't understand where the hype in this movie comes from.
I gather the use of symbolism is where many people find this movie shines it's brightest but it's spoon-fed to the audience in a way that almost feels condescending. The main characters are believable enough, but that's about where the coherence and grounding of this movie ends as the other elements are more-less shoveled into the run time and no one element is given solid enough foundation to have the necessary platform to convey anything of value to the viewer.
There's just alot going on until we get to action scenes which feel out of place for the tone the movie is trying to set, and they ironically, somehow manage to drag on forever. It doesn't help that things get progressively more abstract as the movie goes on, which makes it really difficult to truly be immersed in the struggle of the protagonists. I feel like watching this left me with a million stupid questions that will haunt me in the shower for weeks to come.
