Was really excited to see a diverse cast and characters... Loved the previous CBTD movies.
But what a let down! It's not younger kid friendly. Too many mature topics, statements, references. My kids are teens so we endured the movie. There is so much 'agenda' in this movie it actually takes away from the storyline. I'm pro Obama and Biden, but seriously the dogs names in the movie are Bark Obama and Joe biten. (eye roll) The cringy scenes of white vs black and "things white ppl say" were just overly done. Someone writing this script had a serious chip on their shoulder!
The kids were fun and the younger ones were so cute but again the storyline struggled. The weird ex spouses and awkward co-parenting. I did like the - less is more theme, stay true to your dreams, etc.. But so many wrong turns really distracted from the plot. The scene with the black dad telling the white dad he'll never be able to raise the black son the right way. It was very hard to watch. I'm sure there's truth there, but come on Disney! This was a kid/family movie and it just felt so wrong for a family movie night. We ended the movie feeling like we should have picked a different one.
There could have been great morals here and some awesome take aways to engage in meaningful conversation afterwards, but it was so over the top and almost intentionally cringy, those opportunities were missed.
