Having had the opportunity to meet Dr. E. Bruce Heilman ( Motorcycle Man) in his 88th year and become a friend I wish I had taken the time to read about his earlier life and accomplishments when we were riding together. But I did have the great pleasure of sharing stories with Bruce and enjoying his stories first hand. Now that he has passed; I hear his voice in this book sharing" the rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say.
I had told Dr. Heilman that my grandson as a senior in high school was leaning towards serving in the Marines after graduation. He would become the sixth generation who served but the first as a Marine ( all the rest U.S. Navy and Royal Navy}. I now plan on passing this WWII Marines words onto my young Marine for some of the wisdom that Dr. Heilman was unable to impart in person. It is a book that a young person can relate to; tenant farmers son who finds direction in the Marines and realizes that education will continue unlock what he wishes to do and growing into an educator and someone who continued to give back to his work, church community and nation. I look forward to Dr. Heilman's new book going to press in Spring of 2020.
