After reading the essays I understood the tyranny and dictatorship that had completely turned the peoples of many Latin American countries into hapless slaves. Llosa's political vision is fully expressed in his essays. We can understand the sensitivity with which he upholds democracy and rejects tyranny of all forms. A must read for those who want to really understand the novels of the Nobel laureate.

It's an exciting novel that tells a story of human hypocrisy and duplicity. The nonlinear narrative makes Llosa yet another great exponent of the Latin American structure of the novel.
