Brilliant filmmaking. There were countless scenes that, any one of which, if frozen in time, could have been a framed work of art. The acting was solid. I bought into it immediately, as the film opened with a desperate young boy, trying to save his mother’s life. From there the strength of each character made it all believable. I love historical films, especially when I don’t have to worry about foul language or nudity.
