This movie was terrible. Yes it shows some typical teenage girl issues, but some of the issues that were raised were never resolved appropriately.
For one, the main character does some questionable money-making activities with her friends which isn't portrayed as negative by the end--also a lot of objectifying boys.
The embarrassing things that the mother does is never confronted and the only resolution towards that is for the mother to remove herself from her daughter's life.
In the end, the mother and aunts and grandmother never deal with their own issues, while the main character chooses her friends (and their money-making questionable business) over her family.
I know this movie was supposed to be about being true to yourself, but that isn't the main message that it ended up having.
