I love this show so much and was devastated when it was cancelled. On the surface it’s a silly comedy about pirates and while it is very funny it’s also so much more. It’s an exploration of masculinity and how men are damaged by being forced into meeting society’s expectations. It’s a celebration of the family you find when your own family has rejected you. It’s a look at love in all forms where all gender identities and sexual orientations just exist and it’s not a source of conflict or trauma. The start of season two features one of the best depictions of depression and suicidal thoughts I’ve ever seen. It’s a tragedy that Max cancelled this show. For those who haven’t watched it season two doesn’t end on a cliff hanger so it is still very worth your time. I am hopeful another streamer will pick the show up. It deserves a second chance.
