Fabulous novel in a style that apparently only he can carry. Yes the book has plot holes/red herrings but is beautifully written. IMO Bobby Western is the passenger as his life apparently has little meaning to himself or others. Linking this to an underwater aeroplane with a vacant seat provides fabulus imigery and meaning. As McCarthy is now around 90 yrs old, I took the novel to be his "punch out" card... a review of his relationships, shallow friendships and continuous searching for meaning... Obviously I may be (and probably am) wrong, but if these are his last 2 novels then he exits on a high....
