Solid LGBTQ representation and the main character is canonically unlabelled which is rep rarely shown in media. There is also an autistic character played by an autistic actress. The acting is some of the best I've seen and each scene is so nuanced and everything is deliberate. Each time you watch it there is something to find. There are practically no faults and although the story does focus on a mlm relationship, unlike a lot of LGBTQ shows, this one doesn't focus on internal or external homophobia. And although that is also important to show in media, it is also nice to see a LGBTQ relationship that doesn't revolve around that as I am part of that community and more often than not, that is the focus. But in this show, it shows conflicts of two teenagers trying to communicate with each other, muddle through feelings and life and their experiences, substance abuse and figuring the balance of handling themselves and each other and it's done in such a beautiful way. Things go wrong for them of course but it's not due to hate and neither of them internalise any homophobia which is also a common trope. In fact one of them says to the other "We didn't do anything wrong." and the other says "No, we haven't." and that seems small but is so refreshing considering it's coming from them and they don't need others to tell them that. Even characters that in any other show would be homophobic, in this show they are not - their hate is towards the characters and not their relationship. Also the teenagers have acne!!
