Well, you need to read the books first. This is one of those few instances where if you do not read, you will not know what on earth is going on. The first three episodes make it particularly difficult for a non reader of the series to understand this series where it would even make a lick of sense. Having said that, it is very well done! I read the books before viewing the series.
