When asked what my favorite television show is, The Great Pottery Throwdown is tied for first place with So You Think You Can Dance. I've watched every season multiple times and for reasons beyond my ken, this show gives me immense JOY. If anyone had told me that I would love this series as much as I do, I'd have thought them crazy. But it's enthralling! The participants are all interesting in their own unique ways. All are passionate about pottery and clay. And they're all, well most of them, are incredibly gifted And the challenges are way more exciting than you might expect. Getting the clay to do what you want it to do. Hoping it doesn't crack during the first firing. Taking chances with glazes and minerals you've never had access to before and hoping they're beautiful after the final firing. And so much more! Raku! Timed challenges! Fantastic!
