I was disappointed with this film. The story telling style was jumbled especially at the start and there wasn’t adequate time or info to really get invested in Elvis. I personally am a fan and I was lost between the strange narration, choppy short clips, and the modern pop music that would oddly play over clips. At first I thought someone’s phone was going off in the theater and then I realized that yes, they had a modern song in what should be a truly iconic ode to Elvis 50s/60s. The film really didn’t capture the era at all, which was a huge misstep in my opinion. Tom Hanks just looked odd and his performance was comical. Horrible accent and his appearance was not at all convincing. Austin Butler had a great performance, but other factors really took away from the effectiveness of this film. Bummer because I had really high hopes for this movie.
